Gordana Andjelic-Galic

ordana Anđelić-Galić was one of the most prominent figures of the contemporary art scene in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Born in Mostar in 1949, she graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy in Sarajevo in 1975 and later earned her degree from the Academy of Fine Arts in Sarajevo in 1989.

Throughout her distinguished artistic career, she participated in numerous international exhibitions and events, including the 48th Venice Biennale (ORESTE project, Italian Pavilion), the 21st Alexandria Biennale, the 48th October Salon in Belgrade, and the international projects Transitland and Gender Check at MUMOK – Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig in Vienna. Her work was also exhibited at prestigious institutions such as the State Museum of Contemporary Art in Thessaloniki, the Museum of Modern Art Saint-Étienne, Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw, and ARKO Art Center in Seoul. Her artworks are held in numerous public and private collections worldwide.

From 2012 to 2013, she served as Director of the Collegium Artisticum Gallery in Sarajevo.

Through her performances, installations, and conceptual works, Anđelić-Galić explored issues of identity, globalization, transition, and social transformation. Her artistic practice focused on the relationship between individual and collective experience, the deconstruction of stereotypes, and the creation of new narratives through contemporary artistic forms and media.

She passed away on March 24, 2024, leaving behind a significant artistic legacy and an enduring contribution to the development of contemporary art in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the wider region.
